George Ramsden Poole joined the West Yorkshire Regiment before the War and served through the ranks until he was tranfered to the Royal Flying Corps in September 1917. Following pilot training he joined 88 Squadron in June 1918 as a Bristol Fighter pilot and flew most missions with observers Sgt. Charles Hill and Sgt. Ernest Antcliffe.
