The son of James Davis and Ida Lottie
(Drew) Latimer, Dennis Latimer was a student at
Victoria University, Manchester when the war began.
He served with the Royal Flying Corps as a Bristol Fighter pilot and
was the highest scoring ace in 20 Squadron. He shot down twenty-eight enemy aircraft between March and August of 1918. On 22 August he and his observer, Lieutenant
Tom Cecil Noel, were shot down near Westroosebeke by a member of Jasta 7. Latimer was captured, Noel was killed.
Captain Latimer was repatriated on 31 December 1918. |
