In 1916, after serving with the Royal Field Artillery, Cecil Christian Clark transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. Posted to 1 Squadron on 1 February 1917, he scored 3 victories in March flying Nieuport Scouts. As a flight commander flying the S.E.5a in 1918, Clark scored 7 more victories before he was wounded then captured, shot down in S.E.5a (B4810) by Harry von Bülow-Bothkamp of Jasta 36.
