Injured in a crash on 2 July 1918 but returned to duty on 31 July 1918. Field Marshal Ritter von Greim replaced Hermann Göring as head of the Luftwaffe just before Germany capitulated. He was wounded in the leg in the final stages of the battle for Berlin and, in a Salzburg hospital on 24 May 1945, he committed suicide by ingesting potassium cyanide.
