A member of the 103rd Calgary Rifles and the son of William and Elizabeth Clements, Harris George Clements was employed as a hardware clerk in Calgary, Alberta, Canada when he enlisted in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force in July 1916. After transferring to the Royal Flying Corps, Harris was posted to 74 Squadron in early 1918 and scored six victories flying the S.E.5a in Mick Mannock's flight.
"He watched me coming in from a training flight with Lt. J. I. T. 'Taffy' Jones. Jones, as was pretty much usual, bounced in and broke a few bits of his machine. I landed smoothly — Mannock was impressed, asked me to join the flight and that was that." Harris Clements
