A back-staggered single-seat scout, the Sopwith Dolphin provided the pilot with excellent visibility from the cockpit. Though he never flew it, Cecil Lewis thought "the Dolphin was about the best layout ever designed." With 20 victories, American Francis Gillet scored more victories with the Sopwith Dolphin than any other ace.
