The son of Frederick Arthur and Betsy (Bamford) Vessey, John Arthur Vessey was an observer with 45 Squadron in 1917. He and his pilot, Captain Gordon Mountford, were killed when their Sopwith 1½ Strutter (A8299) collided with another (A8244) on 12 June 1917. The pilots and observers on both aircraft were killed.
