Born in Brazil, Oscar Lennox McMaking was the son of Thomas and Ann McMaking. His residence, in 1901, was Portsmouth, Hampshire. McMaking served in France with the Queen's Own Yorkshire Dragoons in 1915. He was gazetted to the Lincolnshire Yeomanry as a Second Lieutenant in February 1916. Later that year, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. Until 45 Squadron received Sopwith Camels, McMaking flew the Sopwith 1½ Strutter. Credited with six Albatros D.IIIs, he was killed in action when his Camel was shot down in flames by Werner Voss of Jasta 10.
