An engineering student when he enlisted in 1915, Eric Landon Simonson transferred to the Australian Flying Corps in 1917 after serving with the infantry on the Western Front. An S.E.5a pilot, he was posted to 2 Squadron in France on 15 May 1918 and downed one Pfalz D.XII and four Fokker D.VIIs by the end of the war.
