The 148th Aero Squadron was formed on 11 November 1917 at Kelly Field in Texas and sailed for England in February 1918. Upon reaching France, the squadron served with the British 4th Army and its aircraft crossed over the lines of the Western Front for the first time on 20 July 1918. By the end of the war, offensive patrols over enemy lines totalled 2,100 hours and the squadron was credited with 66 confirmed enemy aircraft destroyed with only 11 casualties. 1
