Formed from Fokkerstaffel West personnel, Jagdstaffel 12 scored its first victory on 4 December 1916. One of the highest scoring Staffeln along the British sector of the Western Front during "Bloody April" of 1917, Jasta 12 was credited with destroying 23 aircraft of the Royal Flying Corps in the Battle of Arras.
