On 7 November 1915, 29 Squadron was formed at Gosport with personnel taken from 23 Squadron. Posted to France in March 1916, it was equipped with D.H.2s in April. Performing escort duties for reconnaisance aircraft along the Western Front, the squadron scored its first victory on 29 May 1916. Re-equipped with Nieuport 17s in March 1917, the squadron later added Nieuport 23s, 24s and 27s to its inventory. It flew Nieuport Scouts longer than any other squadron before receiving the S.E.5a in April 1918. 29 Squadron was disbanded on 31 December 1919. |
