1 Naval Squadron was formed at Furnes, Dunkirk in December 1916 from members of 'A' Squadron, 1 Wing. Equipped with Sopwith Triplanes, 1N was posted to the Western Front in support of the Royal Flying Corps in January 1917. Upon returning to England, the squadron was re-equipped with Sopwith Camels in December 1917. In February 1918, 1N was again attached to the Royal Flying Corps and on 1 April 1918, 1 Naval Squadron became 201 Squadron in the Royal Air Force. |
