Originally designated 67 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps, 1 Squadron was formed at Point Cook, Victoria, Australia in 1915 and was posted to the Middle East in March 1916. In January 1918, 67 Squadron became 1 Squadron of the Australian Flying Corps.
