Established: 1 January 1806, by Maximilian-Joseph upon his ascent to the throne of the Kingdom of Bavaria

Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Max-Joseph
The Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Maximilian-Joseph was bestowed upon Bavarian soldiers for bravery in combat. A knighthood entitled the recipient to a lifelong pension and the right to append " Ritter von" to his surname.







 
Recipients - World War I Aces
1 Adam, Hans Ritter von
Married with two children, Ritter von Adam served in the infantry until he was badly wounded on 2 September 1914. Recovering from his wounds, he transferred to the Fliegertruppe and often flew as an observer for Eduard von Schleich while assigned to FA(A) 2b. Flying the Albatros D.III, he scored his first three victories with Jasta 34. In the summer of 1917, he joined Jasta 6, becoming Staffelführer on 30 August 1917. He was killed in action near Langemarck when his Albatros D.V was shot down, possibly by Kenneth Montgomery. His Knight's Cross with Swords of the Order of the House of Hohenzollern was awarded posthumously.
