Arriving at the front in December 1915, the Rumpler C.I was a general purpose reconnaissance biplane that remained in production throughout the war. Unlike previous German two-seaters, it was not a pre-war adaptation but was specifically designed for combat. For this reason, and owing to its manoeuvrability, good speed and rapid rate of climb, it was favored by air crews of the German Fliegertruppe for photo reconnaissance, artillery spotting and light bombing. The Rumpler C.I saw service on almost all fronts of the war. Post-war, it remained in use with the air services of Poland and several Baltic states. |
