The son of Earl and Belle Rogers and a sophmore at Stanford University, Bogart Rogers traveled to Canada to join the Royal Flying Corps in September 1917. After flight training in Canada and Texas, he was commissioned in January 1918 and sent to England for additional training. Posted to 32 Squadron in May 1918, he was credited with six victories while flying the S.E.5a. He left the Royal Air Force in May 1919, returned to the United States and became a screenwriter, technical advisor and producer in Hollywood. Among his screenplays was The Eagle and the Hawk (1933), starring Frederic March, Carole Lombard and Cary Grant. In 1934 Rogers formed the first photo-finish company with Bing Crosby and Greer Garson's husband. Their photo-finish camera was used in trials at the Santa Anita race track that year and proved so successful that it was quickly installed at Crosby's Del Mar track and Hollywood Park. Rogers collapsed at Hollywood Park race track on Saturday, July 23, 1966, and died the following day after surgery for a blood clot. He was 69 years old. |
