A pilot with the 139th Aero Squadron, John Sidney Owens scored 5 victories flying the SPAD XIII in 1918. During World War II he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Air Corps. Owens returned to Pennsylvania when the war ended. On 11 September 1920 he won the A. J. Drexel-Biddle cup for Flying Model Contests.
