The son of Alfred M. and Joohana Bissonette, Charles Arthur Bissonette served two years in the United States Naval Reserve before he went to Canada to enlist in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force on 17 October 1916. He joined the Royal Flying Corps in March 1917. Flying the S.E.5a with 64 Squadron in 1918, he scored six victories before being reassigned to 24 Squadron on 24 September 1918.
