The son of Arthur and Mary Rattray, Arthur Rullion Rattray was a Lieutenant in the Royal Indian Marines before he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. He served as a Flying Officer (Observer) with 104 Squadron. Temp. Lt. A. R. Rattray, Gen. List. 15th Feb. 1917, with seniority from 7th Nov. 1916.

Rear-Admiral Arthur Rullion Rattray, C.B., C.I.E., Royal Indian Navy, Flag Officer, Bombay, was knighted in 1948.
