The son of Gavin and Matilda Craig, Fergus Gray Craig transferred to the Royal Air Force in 1918 and was granted a temporary commission as 2nd Lieutenant, Observer Officer, on 15 June 1918. He was posted to 57 Squadron where he scored five victories as a D.H.4 observer.
