At age 18, Theiller received flying license #511 on 12 September 1913. In 1916, as a two-seater pilot with FFA 25, Otto Schmidt flew as his observer. The following year, Theiller was killed in action when his Albatros D.III was shot down by a Sopwith 1½ Strutter of 70 Squadron.
