Pressentin von Rautter served with the 3rd Guards Uhlan Regiment before transferring to aviation on 1 August 1917. Three days after he joined Jasta 59 on 11 March 1918, he was reassigned to Jasta 4. Downing 15 enemy aircraft by the end of May, he was shot down in flames moments after scoring his final victory.
