Poss served as commanding officer of SFS and MFJ 4. He was shot down by a Sopwith Camel on 30 July 1918. On 15 October 1918, he was shot down and captured near Roulers (Roeselare) by a Sopwith Camel flown by Belgian pilot Adjudant Jean Van der Voort of Escadrille 11.
