After scoring two victories with Jasta 20, Niederhoff was reassigned to Jasta 11 under Manfred von Richthofen on 30 April 1917. On 20 July 1917, he scored his sixth victory, shooting down a Nieuport 23 flown by Australian ace Alfred Shepherd of 29 Squadron. Eight days later, Niederhoff's Albatros D.V was shot down by members of Shepherd's squadron.
