Weismann joined the army on 28 September 1914. Before he transferred from the 28c Regiment d'Infanterie to the French Air Service in 1917, Weismann was wounded by shrapnel in November 1914, suffered frost bitten feet in December 1914, was wounded again by shrapnel in May 1915, and was wounded by a grenade (resulting in the loss of a foot) on 1 June 1916. In 1918, Weismann scored 7 victories as an observer serving with Escadrille BR132.
