Until his death on 7 January 1917, Paul Joannes Sauvage was the youngest ace in the French Air Service. He was killed in action when his SPAD was shot down by anti-aircraft fire.

"Sergent pilot of Escadrille N65. Young pursuit pilot who has rapidly been classed among the best, thanks to his strength and highly remarkable sense of duty.
