Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur
"Elite pilot of exceptional ardor and energy. He has engaged in a short time in more than ten combats, always compelling the enemy planes to flee. On 22 May 1916, he resolutely attacked an enemy plane and, in spite of violent fire from his adversary, he approached for hand-to-hand combat and downed it in our lines after having mortally wounded the pilot and observer. Already cited in orders three times." Légion d'Honneur citation, 3 June 1916
