Légion d'Honneur |
"Elite officer and model pursuit pilot; calm and resolute, fired also by a spirit of self-sacrifice and extremely high intellect, using his knowledge of flying to further his desire to conquer. Patrol leader of the highest order. Liked by his pilots in whom he inspires absolute confidence. On 1 October 1918, with only one comrade, he did not hesitate to attack a group of 20 two-seaters which were strafing our troops. He downed two in flames. Six victories, six citations."
