After joining the army in 1914, Pierre de Cazenove de Pradines transferred to the French Air Service in March 1916. He received a Pilot's Brevet four months later and after additional training was assigned to N81 in December 1916.

"Young non-commissioned officer of absolute integrity and devotion. A pilot full of audacity and spirit, several times he launched attacks on enemy balloons during the days of 18, 19, 20 August 1917 and flamed one on 20 August. Already cited three times." "Remarkable officer and incomparable pilot, impressing all by his courage, modesty and untiring tenacity. Very badly wounded in December 1917 during the course of a desperate combat, he refused convalescence to rejoin his unit where he continues to fight with exemplary spirit. Seven victories.
