Cardon joined the army on 29 August 1914 and transferred to the French Air Service on 3 April 1916. A mechanic with C64, he became a flight instructor at Avord after completing his training in early 1917. After more advanced training, Cardon was posted to Spa81 on 15 December 1917. During May and June of 1918, he scored five victories, all of them balloons.
