Bouyer joined the army on 15 December 1911. After serving with the infantry, he transferred to aviation on 25 December 1914. He received a pilot's brevet (5957) on 25 March 1917 and was assigned to Escadrille N49 on 16 May 1917. With this unit he scored 11 victories by the end of the war.
