A married man, Victor Maslin Yeates joined the Inns of Court O.T.C. in March 1916. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in May 1917, was promoted to temporary Second Lieutenant (on probation) on 15 June 1917 and joined 46 Squadron in February 1918. Shot down twice, he scored 5 victories flying the Sopwith Camel. Yeates authored Winged Victory before succumbing to tuberculosis on 15 December 1934.
