The son of Reverend Thomas and Annie Wright, William Alan Wright was educated at Oundle. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Leicestershire Regiment in January 1915. Wright transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in May 1916. Posted to 45 Squadron in Belgium by early October 1916, he was downed by Max von Müller on 30 April 1917 but survived and scored eight victories flying the Sopwith 1½ Strutter and Sopwith Camel in 1917. |
