An observer with 20 Squadron, Albert Edward Woodbridge, the son of Ellen Woodbridge, was educated at Westcliff and Mercer's School, London. It is believed that one of the four Albatros D.Vs he and Donald Cunnell claimed on 6 July 1917 was piloted by Manfred von Richthofen who was wounded in the head that morning. Woodbridge was wounded in action on 31 July 1917 but rejoined his squadron in the fall and scored three more victories. On 29 December 1917, 2nd Lieutenant Woodbridge received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 5696 on a Maurice Farman biplane at military school, Ruislip. During a London-to-India flight in 1929, he and two others were killed when the Imperial Airways mail plane he was piloting crashed in flames while attempting to land at Jask.
