The son of John and Sarah Wilton, Frederick Charles Wilton was living in Durban, Natal, South Africa before the war. He was reported missing in action on 12 June 1918 but returned safely flying D.H.9 (C1208). He was forced down by Jasta 43 whilst flying D.H.9 (D1724) on 11 July 1918, he was shot up by a Pfalz Scout whilst flying D.H.9 (C2221) on 18 July 1918 and his observer was wounded in action during a raid on the Hirson railway station whilst flying D.H.9 (D7346) on 23 October 1918. Scoring his last two victories on 30 October 1918, Wilton's D.H.9 (D692) was shot up as he attacked the Mons railway station.

   A fine fighting airman, who has destroyed six enemy aeroplanes and driven down another out of control. He has taken part in a number of long-distance bombing raids, and is conspicuous for his determination to reach the objective as well as for his skill in successfully bombing the same.
