The son of Frank Fowler Wear, Albert Edward Wear served with the Royal Fusiliers before he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. He was confirmed in his rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 4 July 1917. 2nd Lieutenant Wear received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 4268 on a Maurice Farman biplane at Military School, Catterick Bridge on 24 September 1917. An observer with 20 Squadron, he scored nine victories flying Bristol Fighters in the summer of 1917.
