Promoted to Temporary Flight Sub-Lieutenant on 5 May 1916, Ronald Roscoe Thornely received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 3290 on a Maurice Farman biplane at Royal Naval Air Station, Chingford on 29 July 1916. He was promoted to Tmporary Captain on 7 May 1918 and scored nine victories with Naval 8 in 1917. Thornely was tranferred to the unemployed list on 1 March 1919. |
