Air mechanic William Victor Strugnell received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 253 on a Bristol biplane at army school, Salisbury Plain on 24 July 1912. With 1 Squadron in 1916, he scored his first victory flying a Morane monoplane. Later posted to 54 Squadron, he scored five more victories flying the Sopwith Pup. |

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While leading an offensive patrol he attacked and brought down a hostile machine. Later, in the same patrol, he brought down a second machine. In all he has accounted for five machines and a kite balloon.
