The youngest son of Henry and Harriet Stokes of 24 Granville Park, Blackheath, Claud Harry Stokes was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) on 3 June 1916. He received his Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate on 24 August 1916. With 57 Squadron in 1918, Stokes scored five victories flying the D.H.4. He was reported missing in action on 29 October 1918.
