The son of William and Harriet Olieff, Percy Henry Olieff scored his first victory as an observer with 1 Squadron in 1916. On 28 April 1917, First Class Air Mechanic Olieff received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 4610 on a Maurice Farman biplane at Military School, Ruislip. Sergeant Olieff was promoted to Second Lieutenant on 1 January 1918. Posted to 55 Squadron, he claimed four more victories flying the D.H.4.
