A graduate of Durham University, William Miller served with the 20th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusilier before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in 1918. Posted to 18 Squadron on 4 April, he scored 6 victories as an observer flying D.H.4s before being wounded in action on 6 September 1918.
