The son of William George and Miriam (Pearce) Davies, Edgar George Davies, a butcher, enlisted as a driver in the Royal Field Artillery on 29 December 1914. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps on 4 November 1917. 2nd Lieutenant Davies received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 5943 on a Grahame-White biplane at the Grahame-White School, Hendon on 11 May 1918. He was posted to 29 Squadron on 1 September 1918 and in the last three months of the war, he was credited with 10 victories flying the S.E.5a. Davies was killed in a crash whilst stationed in Germany in 1919.

   Bold in attack and skilful in manoeuvre, this officer never hesitates to attack the enemy when opportunity occurs, without regard to disparity in numbers. On 7th October, with three other machines, he attacked seven Fokkers; four of these were destroyed, 2nd Lt. Davies accounting for one. Since 16th September he has to his credit four enemy machines and one kite balloon.
