The son of Major Horace Scott Davey, Lieutenant Horace Balfour Davey, N. Staffs. Regt., received Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate 2752 on a Maurice Farman biplane at Military School, Norwich on 6 March 1916. An F.E.2b pilot, he and his observers scored six victories in France with 25 and 11 Squadrons in 1916.
