From the Essex Regiment, Edric William Broadberry, the son of Arthur and Amy Broadberry, was promoted to Captain on 30 May 1916. He was seconded for duty with the Royal Flying Corps on 8 November 1916. Posted to 56 Squadron in 1917, he scored eight victories flying the S.E.5a.
