An S.E.5a pilot, Alexander Beck dropped out of school to join the Royal Flying Corps. Having lied about his age, he was posted to 60 Squadron in July 1917. After flying 13 sorties over the lines, his parents informed the RFC of his true age and Beck was recalled from France. Eventually, he was permitted to rejoin 60 Squadron in March 1918 and became a flight commander. On 1 November 1918, Beck scored 60 Squadron's final victory of the war, shooting down a Fokker D.VII near Mormal Woods. |
