The son of Charles Edmund and Ida Lucy Ashfield, Lionel Arthur Ashfield scored five victories with 202 Squadron in 1918. He was killed in action when his Sopwith Camel was shot down by Hans Goerth. |

A very capable officer of exceptional judgment and courage. He has carried out sixty two flights behind the enemy line's with invariable success. During the last few months he has engaged seventeen enemy machines, and has been instrumental in destroying five. On one occasion he attacked five enemy aeroplanes, bringing down one in flames.
