The son of Henry and Kate Apps, Gordon Frank Mason Apps joined the Royal Flying Corps in August 1917. Serving in Italy with 66 Squadron, he scored nine victories flying the Sopwith Camel. On 4 May 1918, he shot down an Albatros D.III flown by Andreas Dombrowski. Apps later served with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Military Funeral For Canada Fliers
   Petersboro [sic], Ont., Oct. 26 (UP).—The bodies of Flight Lieut. Gordon Apps, of the Royal Canadian Flying Corps, and John Hand, Camp Borden officer, were to be buried today with military honors.
   Apps and Hand were killed in an airplane crash here Saturday [24 October 1931], which injured three others.
   Mrs. Apps, who hurried from Toronto to Petersboro to see her dying husband Saturday, arrived safely after planes had been sent to search for her. Lieutenant Apps had died, however.
