Born in Bengal, India, Ivan Wilmot Frank Agabeg was at Cheltenham College from 1907 to 1915. He joined the 2nd Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment and received his commission in April 1916. Whilst serving in France, he was wounded in June 1917 and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 7 October 1917. In May 1918, Agabeg transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and served with 88 Squadron as a Brisfit observer, scoring six victories with his pilots. He relinquished his commission and left the Royal Air Force on 9 April 1919.
