The son of James and Katherine (Lyon) White, James Butler White attended Highfield College in Hamilton, Ontario. Before he enlisted, White worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in western Canada and with the Standard Bank in Vancouver, British Columbia.
In 1918, he scored eight victories flying the Sopwith Camel with 8 Naval Squadron (later 208 Squadron). White was transferred to the unemployed list on 3 July 1919. When he returned to Canada after the war, he became a stockbroker and founded J. B. White & Company in Toronto, Ontario in 1924. From 1945 to 1947 he was the president of the Toronto Stock Exchange. |
